the Red Dress Competition with the American Heart Association
When I first got this Red Dress assignment from the American Heart Association, I felt that was a pleasure to design for this organization, which is about saving human life and health. In the face of heart disease, human beings are fragile. It doesn’t only cause people to lose their health, but also their lives. So I want to convey the fight spirit in my design. The impact of the design has the power to fight the disease. My dress shows concise and powerful.
After doing some research, I was inspired by a Siamese fighting fish called Betta. I was particularly attracted by its colorful and flowing tail, and love the texture of its hard scales. Therefore, I combined a piece of red with blue cross dye taffeta and a piece of wine color sunburst pleated poly organza to show the feeling of the fish. I use a really hard fishing line to make a weaving shape of organza’s edge. When model is walking, both fabric pieces will have color change. I wanted to show powerful and beauty as a fighting fish during moving.
